Chris Brennan - Treasurer
Chris Brennan has the pleasure of serving SBA’s Treasurer. Chris earned his bachelor’s degree in public relations at the University of Florida. Cristin Comiskey - Historian
My name is Cristin Comiskey and I am a 3L from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. I studied journalism at the University of Florida where I designed multiple magazines and wrote for various publications. My love of communication has inspired me to get involved in senate so that I can amplify the concerns of the student body. I hope to bring transparency to students and echo their collective voice in SBA.

I chose UM Law because I believe in a culturally rich environment with a strong academic curriculum. I have been nothing if not inspired by my peers since the start of my tenure at UM and hope to give back to the students who keep my learning environment so vibrant. I look forward to working toward a comprehensive revision of the bylaws for UM students and toward the facilitation of open communication between the SBA and the students it represents. I welcome concern and criticism and look forward to working hard for my hard-working peers.

Jason Emert - ABA Representative
I am Jason Frederick Emert, 2L and American Bar Association (ABA) Representative. I’m originally from Knoxville, Tennessee and attended Southern Illinois University. While at SIU I played football and was a member of the Student Government Association. I graduated in December 2006. In school, I am studying international business law. In fact, I spent part of this past summer studying in the School of Law’s London Study Abroad program. As ABA Representative, I want to develop a strong MiamiLaw presence within the ABA Law Student Division. I encourage everyone to join the ABA Law Student Division for the many benefits associated with membership. If you have any questions about law school, study abroad, or especially the ABA, please do not hesitate to contact me.

In his free time the Senatron enjoys snorkeling, snowboarding, and cinematic adventures.

Ryan McCarthy - 3L Senator
A native of the great state of Florida, Ryan McCarthy has dedicated himself to public service and advocacy from an early age.  While attending Suncoast High School, Ryan was elected to serve as the Governor of Florida American Legion Boys State.  After graduating high school, Ryan attended the University of Florida whereby he majored in political science with a minor in communication studies.  During the course of his undergraduate years, Ryan served on the student senate for three terms, remained active in Theta Chi Fraternity, and received membership in Florida Blue Key.  Currently, Ryan is a third-year student at the University of Miami pursuing a Juris Doctor from the School of Law and a Masters in Music Business and Entertainment Industries from the Frost School of Music.  For the instant term, Ryan looks forward to championing issues of utmost importance to the 3L students, while ensuring the continued success of the School of Law.

Alexander Roth - 3L Senator
I came to Miami after 6 years in the Marine Corps and 3 years as a Law Enforcement Officer in Montana.   As a veteran of Iraq, I have a great appreciation of the real world application of international law, and as a Deputy Sheriff I developed first-hand experience in criminal law.  I also volunteered over 300 hours between my 2L and 3L year at the Montana Office of the Public Defender, where I mainly worked on Sex Crime and Homicide cases.

2L Senators

Jessica Lee - 2L Senator
Jessica Lee was born in Massachusetts and grew up in South Florida. She graduated from the University of Miami and later earned a Master in Business Administration from Florida International University. Prior to law school, she worked with a South Florida investment firm where she co-managed portfolios of over $100 million.  As a 1L, she served as the Section C Senator, Chair of the Senate Bylaws, Rules, and Constitution Committee (BRACC), Books and Buddies Program volunteer, and Student Ambassador.  She also participated in Equity Playhouse! She is currently part of the Innocence Clinic, Public Interest Leadership Board, and International Moot Court. She is the Secretary of the Society of Bar and Gavel. Jessica continues to serve the student body as a 2L Senator and Chair of BRACC.

 Claire Rumler - 2L Senator
My name is Claire Rumler. I am a native of Denver, Colorado, and an alumna of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After college, I spent two years working as an English as a Foreign Language teacher in South America and Asia. Last year, I used my position as a 1L senator to establish the Law Division of the University’s GreenU environmental program. Through GreenU Law, I have worked with the administration and the student body to create environmental policies that, if successful, will be rolled out to the rest of the university. As a 2L senator, I hope to continue to work with the student body to come up with more ways to make the campus green.

2L Senator and Speaker of the House
Frank Sardinha, III was born on October 11, 1987 in Jupiter, FL.  After graduating Jupiter High School in 2006, he went on to attend the University of Florida, where he graduated with a Bachelors in Finance in 2010.  Frank is currently in his second year at the University of Miami School of Law where he serves as the Speaker of the Student Bar Association Senate.  Frank is extremely passionate about youth leadership development, and he was recently appointed Director of Florida American Legion Boys State, the youngest in its 72-year history.  Frank is an avid boater, loves his Miami Dolphins, and is serving UM Law to bring accountability and responsibility back to the Student Bar Association.

Bridget Schultz - 2L Senator
My name is Bridget Schultz. I am currently a 2L. I am originally from Albany, NY and graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in public relations in 2010. Before coming to law school, I took one year off to work for the New York State legislature. After 22 years in New York, I knew I wanted to go down south for law school. When I visited the U I was hooked. I quickly knew that despite the poor economy, I would be attending a school that devoted immense resources to securing its students a successful career. From the clinics, to the excellent staff at the CDO, to the school's proximity to one of the busiest cities in the world, I knew Miami was the place to start my career.
I wanted to join SBA because of its desire to give back to the students. Law school is a difficult and stressful time, but it is nice to be part of an organization that can make a difference in the day-to-day life of the student body. I hope that SBA can be an outlet for anyone who wishes to be involved, raise a concern, network with fellow professionals, or stay informed.

Appointed Positions

Nefra-Ann McDonald - Chief of Staff
Hello UM Law Family! I am so honored to have been appointed Chief of Staff for the 2012-2013 SBA term. I am a 3L in the dual JD/MM program, and I'm a double 'Cane since I also attended the University of Miami for undergrad. My mission this year is to get the executive board united in their vision of serving you, and assist them in whatever projects they may need. This year, I hope to bring our own clothing line to the school, as well as getting us involved in the Class Ring Day with our own custom ring for the law school. One of my pet projects last year was giving our 3L students more preparation, thus increasing the school's bar passage rate, and I plan on continuing that as well. If you have any comments or suggestions on how we can serve you better, please do not hesitate to approach me!

Michael Stevenson - Attorney General
After graduating from Michigan State University with honors in three years’ time, I became a guest teacher for underprivileged youth in Lansing, Michigan. Though I am a Detroit native, Michigan State is where I started my legal advocacy—both as the Associate Director of the MSU American Civil Liberties Union and as a Political Columnist for our college newspaper, The State News. I’ve continued my legal advocacy at Miami Law by becoming a Student Attorney for the Human Rights Clinic, as well as being elected President of the Democratic Law Students’ Association. I’ve also become active in Miami Law’s world-renowned International Moot Court program, and as a Cabinet Member of the Tax Law Society. Last summer, I worked for both a prominent criminal defense firm as well as at an intellectual property firm here in Miami. Because I am a workaholic, this summer I’ve worked as a Research Assistant for Professor.
